Monteith's Golden Lager, New Zealand

Name - Golden Lager
Type - Lager
Vol. 5%, 330mL crown sealed bottle
Brewer - Monteith's
Origin - Greymouth (SI), New Zealand
Importer - N/A
Verdict - Light and refreshing, more malty than hoppy. These fancy pants lagers give me a bit of cause to think we can do reasonable lager down here if we actually try.

Malheur 10, Flanders, Belgium

Name - Malheur 10
Type - Blonde Ale
Vol. 10%, 330mL crown sealed bottle
Brewer - De Landschteer
Origin - Buggenhout, Flanders, Belgium
Importer - FM Liquor, Cottesloe, WA
Verdict - Ah, where do you begin when talking about 10% beers? They taste better by the sip. They always start strong and bitter, but by the end, you're enjoying the round, full mouth feel, and the bitterness is now just a sharpness. Doubtless keeps well in the bottle, has a fine, pearly head, and and a beautful, warm citrus taste. Coming in at almost 3 standard drinks, it's a beautiful relaxer.

Malheur 6, Flanders, Belgium

Name - Malheur 6
Type - Blonde Ale
Vol. 6%, 250mL crown sealed bottle
Brewer - De Landschteer
Origin - Buggenhout, Flanders, Belgium
Importer - Australian Trade Partners, Underwood, QLD
Verdict - A nice light blonde ale. Hoppy and competent, but not a total knockout. Well worth another drink, though! I think Malhout is "misfortune" in French, but there's no misfortune here, apart from a Flemish brewery using the French language...

James Squire Sundown Lager

Name - James Squire Sundown Lager
Type - Lager
Vol. 4.4%, 345mL crown sealed bottle
Brewer - James Squire
Origin - Sydney, Australia
Importer - N/A
Verdict - Meh. It's lager. Sure, drinkable, probably best suited for smashing in summer with less damage to the liver and palate than that caused by the usual watery domestics, but for a summer smash, you'd probably want to be playing at a cheaper table. Squire's stuff is always drinkable, of course. Chuck Hahn hasn't fucked up since Sydney Bitter.

Quilmes, Argentina

Name - Quilmes
Type - Lager
Vol. 4.9%, 970mL crown sealed bottle
Brewer - Quilmes
Origin - Argentina
Importer - N/A
Verdict - Crazy-light, thin lager. Resembles American lagers, more than anything else, but slightly more punch than seppo beer. Quilmes would be great in summer for refreshment, as it goes down super easy, but not at all substantial, unfortunately.

Framboise Oud Beersel, Flanders, Belgium

Name - Framboise
Type - Framboise (Lambiek)
Vol. 5%, 375mL cork sealed bottle
Brewer - Oud Beersel
Origin - Beersel, Flanders, Belgium
Importer - Australian Trade Partners, Underwood, QLD
Verdict - Unsweetened Lambiek framboise. Tart and fragrant, but finishes more mellow than the framboise by Boon.

Innis & Gunn, Oak Aged Beer, Scotland

Name - Innis & Gunn Oak Aged Beer
Type - Light Ale
Vol. 6.6%, 330mL crown sealed bottle
Brewer - Innis & Gunn
Origin - Edinburgh, Scotland
Importer - Australian Trade Partners, Underwood, QLD
Verdict - What happens when you put beer in a whisky barrel for 77 days? Well, you get a beer that tastes like whisky, or, more precisely, oak. The label blethers on about vanilla and toffee, and sure, they're there, but the overriding taste is of oak. Pours well and has a nice, light head, but primarily worth drinking for the experience. Unsurprsingly, the brewers came across it by mistake.

Altenmünster Brauer Bier Urig Würztig, Bayern, Germany

Name - Altenmünster Brauer Bier Urig Würztig
Type - Lager
Vol. 4.9%, 500mL swing top bottle
Brewer - Allgäuer Brauhaus
Origin - Kempten, Bayern, Germany
Importer - B.A.W. Braeside, Victoria
Verdict - Hoppy yet mellow lager, almost closer to a pale ale than a lager. Finishes dry and unfortunately a little flat.
